CO's Comment December 7, 2007

It is Christmas time again and so begins the snow and the parties. This is the season that we go out and have a wonderful time with family and friends. I want to tell you to enjoy yourselves, but DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.

On the weekend of 14-16 Dec the unit will conduct several social functions to include an Officers Mess Dinner, a sports day and finally our annual church Parade and Mens Christmas Dinner. I hope to see everyone of you out for the events. It is a time for the unit to get together and celebrate the season.

On the weekend of 1 December I will be attending a street naming ceremony in Hoevelaken Holland. The street was named after Pte Walter (Jock) Strang of The Loyal Edmonton Regiment. He was killed in action in the town and was the only Canadian Soldier to die in that town during the war. His death was only two weeks away from the end of the war. Since that date the town had set up a memorial in his honour and have paid their respects every May, or Liberation of Holland Day. 65 years letter they are going to name a street after him.
