I am happy to see progress on our new web page. Keep coming back as it will grow over the next few months. One of the things that you can do to help is to send in some photos and short stories of training events. Remember that this web page is also read by those who may want to join this fine Infantry Regiment.
My thoughts this month are on the training ahead and our 100th Anniversary. I’ll talk a bit about our 100th. Our main event will be the April 4-5 Weekend where we will host a reunion meet and greet on Friday night at all the messes at the Armoury. Saturday will be the Open House from 1000hrs to 1500hrs. I will be asking all the unit members to contribute by being part of one of the displays. Finally will be the Grand Ball at the Ramada Inn Saturday night from 1800 hrs to whenever. This will be an excellent opportunity to have a good time celebrating 100 years in this City with friends, family, and the citizen of Edmonton.
That said, we are just saying good-bye to 24 members of the unit that will be serving in Afghanistan. They will have to find their own way to celebrate our Regiment’s birthday. The remaining members of the Regiment have a series of exercises over the next three months that will challenge everyone. The first is a combined Winter Warfare/Patrolling exercise in Kamloops on the 22-24 February. We will be working with the Rocky Mountain Rangers. There will be two Computer Assisted Exercises for selected commanders in preparation for the Brigade Training Event Exercise Prairie Defender in Dundurn 26 April to 6 May. I am hoping for a good turn out for the BTE, so mark your calendars and talk to your employers. We will also be getting together with the Calgary Highlanders on the 28-30 March 08 here in Edmonton to work on FIBUA Ops and live fire ranges.
We have a lot of training opportunities for all levels of qualification in the unit. I ask that you make every effort to attend these exercises.
